I have known for a long time that my children are smarter than me. And for a while, I've been able to keep it a secret for a while now. But I think the secret will be out in no time.
If you follow my blog, I posted HERE about my girls learning about saving money. Last week Maya came out of dance with a flyer for a teddy bear wearing a dance outfit for $25. Here's how the conversation went:
Maya: Mom, Look, I think I have enough money to buy this teddy bear.
(She already knew I wouldn't buy it for her so she didn't even ask. Love it!)
Me: Maya, I thought you were saving your money for some roller blades.
Maya: I know but it's sooo cute.
Me: Well, let's think about this. You could buy that teddy bear that is so cute and you would put it on you bed and end up just looking at it. But, if you bought roller blades, what would you do every day, ALL summer long with your sisters?
Maya: I would roller blade.
(After a second.)
Maya: But, mom, I wouldn't GROW OUT of the teddy bear.
Yep! The secret's going to be out in no time.

OH! That is SOOOO cute!
I had to comment because I think I fear the day my children figure this out. I kept thinking it would happen with math homework someday, when I have to pay for a tutor if they don't get it because I am hopeless in that area.
But Tyler recently began taking piano lessons, so it has officially happened. Tyler knows more than me.
I wonder if it will hit him soon? Will he think less of me?
Silly thoughts, but honest ones.
whoa! With the title of your post I thought you were going to say that you're pregnant and I was going to be hurt that you didn't tell me first. HA!
Love that Maya!

I was freaking out a little bit too about the post title! I was relieved to see it was just about our kids being smarter than we are! I don't think it's a secret with Chloe anymore...I still have some wiggle room with my boys...now If I could just get them to listen!!!Maya cracks me up!!
I'm with Maren . . . I thought, "What? I just talked to her yesterday, and she didn't tell me?"
Darling Maya--I told the story to Grandpa, but he didn't get it because he had a hard time thinking beyond the clamp-on your shoe variety of skate.
What a great story Casey!
