The Chosen Land! (This is for you, Jean)

Many of us have been watching how the politicians have been failing us this year. Last night was one of those moments. I waited all day wondering if I wanted to post anything - my emotions have gone from FRUSTRATION, to OUTRAGE, to FEAR, to HOPELESSNESS. When I talked to my mom she said that she was sent this quote that was uplifting to her. I thought it was just what we need to hear at a time like this.

"Men may fail in this country, earthquakes may come, seas may heave beyond their bounds, there may be great drought, disaster, and hardship, but this nation, founded on principles laid down by men whom God raised up, will never fail. This is the cradle of humanity, where life on this earth began in the Garden of Eden. This is the place of the new Jerusalem. This is the place that the Lord said is favored above all other nations in all the world. This is the place where the Savior will come to His temple. This is the favored land in all the world. Yes, I repeat, men may fail, but this nation won't fail. I have faith in America; you and I must have faith in America, if we understand the teachings of the gospel of Jesus Christ. We are living in a day when we must pay heed to these challenges.

I plead with you not to preach pessimism. Preach that this is the greatest country in all the world. This is the favored land. This is the land of our forefathers. It is the nation that will stand despite whatever trials or crises it may yet have to pass through."

Harold B. Lee, Ye Are the Light of the World, pp. 350-351

Don't you love that? All of us that have been fighting this battle - going to Tea Party's, writing and calling our representatives, staying informed, and educating ourselves truly believe that "this is the greatest country in all the world." Knowing this brings comfort to me but blessings like this don't come without hard work. We still need to do our part to help KEEP this the greatest country in the world!

Casey, thanks for sharing that! Wow, it really is inspired and encouraging. Jeff and I too have felt very discouraged and a little pessimistic today. This really helped and I posted it on facebook as well. Hope you don't mind!

All day I've just keep thinking it's hangin by a thread people!!

YAY I have been waiting all day! I love that quote too. Even when we feel all is crumbling down around us we still need to stand tall and and face these hard times with positivity, but I still hope that these idiots will get what's coming to them!

That is a great quote. I also enjoyed reading in the March Ensign all the devasting things that happened all over the world since the restoration of the gospel but yet the church still moved forward and that we will always have a prophet dispite the trials we may face in the countries we live.

Casey, I like you went through about 6 emotions yesterday. I am still angry. This bill not only goes against what I believe moraly but professionally as well. It diretly effects my livelihood as well as the livelihood of my coworkers and friends. I like Jeannie kept thinking that the Constitution is "hanging by a thread!" If I wanted to live in a Socialist country I would have moved to freaking Canada!!! Now that I've vented, Thanks for posting that quote. It helped lift my spirits. Depite the stupidity of men, the Lord, the Gospel and Good will prevail! I may steal it and post it too!

Casey,
The voters of this country (all of them) need to get involved. We, as a country are in this situation because of voter apathy, not just this last election, but extending back 2 or 3 decades. And it isn't just Democrats, it is any elected official who is NOT responsive to the will of the people. We need to hold them all accountable and perhaps there is now enough anger in the country to do just that!

Casey, you are AWESOME! We can't let the people forget what Congress did on Sunday! I'm with you! I wish we could fight side be side, but know I am doing what I can in PA!

P.S. Thanks for the nice comment about the huge cake I made for Stuart. :) There is no recipe though! I used the Confetti cake mix, it's 2 layers, and a container of Miracle Whip! It was really yummy! I bake it at a lower temp for longer so it's extra moist.

First of all your girls are beautiful and toooooo grown up! Your blog site is so creative, and you can write so well! I have always enjoyed reading your blog. You have a great readership so obviously I am not the only one who thinks so.

I thank you for your comments about my writing. I'm old, but not too old to learn new tricks. Right???

It would be great to connect with others who write, so would appreciate that connection if you find it. Thanks!
