Scripture Study

I have a dear friend in AR who has one of the best blogs, in my opinion. She seems to always recognize the lessons that Heavenly Father is teaching her and she records them on her blog. It is so uplifting for me and I love to hear what she has learned and how she has grown. It's just another opportunity where I can learn to be a better wife, mother and daughter of my Heavenly Father.

This morning I was studying my scriptures and was touched by a few things that I read. Since there is no one hear to share this with, I thought of sweet Chelsie's blog and decided to record my thoughts. I hope it will be as inspiring to you as it has been to me.

I was reading in 2 Nephi 28:14 where it talks about the precepts of man. When I read my study guide it said that this was talking about members of the church who are dressed in "sheeps clothing". Apostates that are among us, along with apostate doctrines that are taught in classes, at our pulpits and in our publications. My first reaction was, "yes, I've seen that, I know exactly what this is talking about." I obviously wasn't likening it to myself. Then I read a quote by Pres. Benson - one part said, "There are some in our midst who are not so much concerned about taking the gospel into the world as they are about bringing worldliness into the Gospel." What a great quote. My first thought was of Sis. Beck's talk about Mothers Who Know. There was quite a bit of controversy when she gave that because some women (who have been led astray from what the gospel teaches) thought Sis. Beck was wrong and had gone too far. I thought this quote was perfect for them. (Again, not likening it to myself.) All of a sudden I realized that here I was bringing the world into the gospel right now buy pointing fingers and being full of pride thinking that it didn't apply to me. I was letting Satan distract me from what I really should have been learning. How often have I brought the world into the Gospel? Everytime I am offended, prideful, covet my neighbor's (lately it has been there perfect lawns and immaculate yards.) When I try to justify my acts that are not in accordance with my Heavenly Father. I know I have a lot more but I don't need to share them all.

This is the best part about the scriptures and the Holy Ghost. I read what I needed to study and the spirit has whispered to me what I need to learn and now today I can try and do better and be better. We'll see how it goes. Wish me luck.

Thanks Chelsie for being such a good example.

Casey, I love Chelsie's blog, too. Many times it's my extra spiritual thought of the day. And so true about what you have said; we are told that we should be studying our scriptures, and maybe even we read the same thing, but what we LEARN depends on us. We all have different lessons that we need at different times and a loving Father in Heaven that knows what those lessons are and gave us a way to learn them.
