With four girls in the house, it's a challenge to keep everyone looking presentable all the time. When Alexa was a baby I enjoyed putting bows and even little pebble pig tails in her hair. As she started into the toddler stages, it got a little more difficult. I would get frustrated with her wiggling and squirming around. One day it came to me that we are going to be doing this for a lot of years and so I better learn to enjoy it. I realized that I can either make this a chore or turn it into an opportunity where we could take the time to visit and make it a good bonding experience for the both of us. The wiggling and squirming was short lived and it became more fun and we decided to try and get a little more creative (to alexa's dismay sometimes.) As each girl came along they all just followed along with the attitude that it was an every day occurance and they would just get in line for their turn. Although the bathroom gets crowded, they no longer wait their turn outside, they all come in and we talk. Actually, they talk and I get to listen. I have really learned to love this time with them (even at 6:30 in the morning.)
All that background info. just to show these few pictures. There was a blog that I used to follow from time to time and this mother had the same feelings as I did. She had 3 girls of her own and she would post hair dos and the steps on how to do them. Here is a picture of Maya with one of her hair do's that I slightly altered. I think it turned out pretty good.
For weeks Alexa had been asking me to do little braids all over her hair. She wanted to braid them on Friday night and then take them out for church Sunday morning and have wavy hair. We just couldn't find the time. Finally on Conference Sunday we sat and watched conference while I did her hair. It took HOURS!!! Here's the final product. She ended up wearing them most of the week.

What an amazing mom--but with such cute girls, every hairdo turns out!
I agree with the time for talking--I used to enjoy that also (in between the ows and ouches).
You VanBuskirks and your fancy hair - I love it!!!! Mine have asked me, too, for the all-over braids and I don't have the patience to sit that long. Conference is a great idea, though. I will be showing them this post and seeing if I can get one to get braided before school is out!!!
I remember one time in Arkansas you had to go away for a weekend. We all wondered if the ladies would have fancy hair for SUnday and sure enough, they all looked beautiful with Tim's dos!!! You trained him well!
Keep up the good work - and get Tim to grow his out enough for braids!
