Ok! So we are trying to make our Christmas more meaningful around here. We have decided that we wanted to do the 12 days of Christmas for a widow who lost her husband only a few months ago. The problem is that I've never done it before. I started looking on line for some ideas but realized that all my dear friends and family that read this blog are MUCH more creative than a lousy web site. So, if you have any clever things you have done - send them my way. Thanks for you help. Hope you are all enjoying the Christmas Season. We sure are.

I have never done it either but the one thing I did hear was that for the 1st day was to give them some type of container to keep all the other things you give them in. Like a stocking or a basket or something with a little note attached that you will be filling for them. Hope that helps.
I've never done it either, (which is one reason you've probably never done it), but Dottie used to do it every year. Email her and find out what kinds of things they did. I remember that on the "8 maids a-milking day" she took 8 cartons of milk--the little ones the kids get at school. Good luck.
Hi Casey,
it´s a really beautiful idea. Why don´t you invite the lady over for an afternoon with tea and cookies and reading christmas stories and singing carols?
Love, Natalie
Dawn Brown just told me that she wants to do this and she is going to do it "literally," meaning she will give pears the first day and dove chocolate for the turtle doves. I thought that sounded SO cute! Give her a call and I'll bet you could brainstorm together!
um Casey are you ignoring me?? I stalked and stalked you and never heard back! I wanted some of your sewing skills!!
My neighbors are having the 12 days of Christmas done for the their kids and some just wrapped some dollar store toys for them to open each day. They are losing their dad to cancer right now and she is grateful because it's been a little distraction for them.
Check out rallyforrafe.blogspot.com
and then maybe I'll stop stalking you!
Try Sugardoodle.net there area always awesome ideas there. or theideadoor.com
good luck!
Casey that is such a great idea! Someone did that for my first Christmas without Aaron and it meant SO much to me. I was not in the Christmas spirit at all(I wasn't even going to get a tree...my friends brought me one when they found out!)
Seriously, it was wonderful. I remember my favorite thing they did was give me some CD's they had burned with awesome Christmas music. I still have the mugs they gave me with some hot chocolate....
Miss you guys!!!!
Jean, I'm so sorry that I haven't responded to you. I wasn't ignoring and you haven't been stalking. I've just been super busy. I was thinking about it and then I saw the auction started and figured it was too late. Is it?
Casey - We did this last year and it was done to us last year. Really, really took the holiday to another level. So much thoughtfulness, generosity, love, you can't go wrong. Plus, you get to be sneaky if you do it in secret!
I'm digging through Christmas stuff to find the poems from last year that were given to us - so wonderful. Each day was literal - with a practical twist - like - lords-a-leaping became Christmas socks for everyone! Swans-a-swimming was a set of Christmas-y hand towels for the kitchen.
I'm digging and I'll e-mail you!
Fruitless digging! Bummer. I can't find the poems. Either you will ave to be creative - you can do it, I know - or, another 12 days of Christmas we did one year was to find a nativity set with at least 12 pieces. Give one piece each night, with the Baby Jesus on Christmas Eve. We started with some straw and the creche, then added each piece. Predicable, yes, but, meaningful.
I'm gonna keep seaching for those fun poems. I KNOW I saved them...
Casey,
I've never commented or blogged or anything but wanted to share an idea. I hope it gets to you. Kerina wanted to do the 12 days of Christmas to our neighbor who can be a bit cranky. She is alone and likes it that way. Kerina thought it might help her want to be friends with us. Since it was her idea I let her pick something we could give her (bought, made, or laying around the house in like new condition) and then I helped her write an original poem for that day based on what item she was giving. The only thing it had in common with the song was the beginning, "On the first day of Christmas, etc."I liked it because it was different and Kerina felt a lot of ownership for the whole project because she was coming up with gift ideas and poems that were her own work.It is a memory she still talks about. And it was anonymous but I still think it helped our neighbor friendship. Hope this helps.
